Most of us know that our skin is the largest organ in the body but it’s also one of the most sensitive as well. While it’s tough enough to survive all the craziness that comes with work, play, gym and everything else in between, it does need some extra love and attention from time to time.


One of the most common skin complaints around our office is flaky, fragile skin, and we know it’s probably one of yours too! While it’s usually cold winter winds that cause this problem, dry skin can be a problem any time of year.


Never fear babe, we’ve researched and found 5 ways you can say EFF Off to flakiness!  

 

1. Go au-naturel

Often our go-to solution is slather on our most potent, skin products to combat dryness. However often those products are filled with chemicals like acid and alcohol which will upset your skin even more. 2. It’s getting (not so) hot in here  

Yes, we all love having a long, hot shower at the end of tiring day. But the fact is the longer you shower, the more your stripping your skin of its natural oils. Hot showers negatively affect the skin’s outer layer, the epidermis. Not sure what the epidermis does? It keeps everything from the outside world from entering your body and stops you from drying out. It contains acids that are natural antibiotics, killing bacteria and preventing them from getting inside your body.

 

3. Glowing skin starts within

Happy gut = happy skin! When the air outside is colder and drier, skin can’t hold onto as much moisture.   Humidifiers infuse the air with moisture, soothing dried out, itchy, cracked skin. Sleep with one on overnight and you’ll literally wake up with softer, smoother skin.

 

5. Timing is everything

Once you’ve found your holy grail natural moisturizer you’re good to go right? Wrong! You need to make sure you apply your moisturizer during the ‘lock-it-in’ window otherwise you’re wasting your time. After your shower, pat your skin dry with a towel and then apply. If you wait until your skin is totally dry, you will have missed the window and it won’t be absorbed properly. You can also apply this method to using hand cream, making sure you don’t wait too long after washing them during the day.
