Chats with Girl Boss Rachael Finch

Posted by Sarah Murphy on

From Dancing with the Stars, to TV presenting, launching Body By Finch to raising two beautiful humans, it's an honour to chat with this incredibly successful, inspiring and not to mention busy Rachael Finch....

How did you get into living the healthy, holistic lifestyle you live now?
I love knowing what makes me feel amazing. I want to get the most from every day and be a 100% version of Rachael, not a crappy, moody version. I want energy for Violet and Dominic and I want to life a long and happy life. I make healthy choices every day because of this.

Were you always involved in health and wellness?
Mum says she can remember me running down the athletics track with nappies on! I competed in athletics competitively until I was 15, then entered my first modelling competition so you could say I’ve been working on my body almost my whole life. I have always been aware of body mechanics and fuel for performance. When I broke into modelling I dove further into nutrition and studied health coaching just before I gave birth to Violet. It’s my favourite topic to learn about!

What’s one piece of advice you would give to women who are on their own health journey?
Always listen to your body and trust your instinct! Our bodies are incredibly intelligent and always working in our favour, we just need to give it the time and space to let us know what it needs. Be kind to yourself!

You’re lucky enough to be the mum to two beautiful kids, how important is it to be a healthy and happy example for them?
I want Violet and Dominic to grow understanding why we eat healthy and make good decisions for our body. I want them to be the best versions on themselves and appreciate feeling strong, calm and happy as they grow. They mirror everything we do so it’s up to me to set the example.

Being a mum is so special, what’s your absolute favourite thing about being a mother?
Seeing Violet and Dominic happy.

How important do you think it is to balance your career and your personal life, and how do you do so?
It’s healthy to get bits of everything to make up that circle of life. Every day I work on balancing all aspects to keep me feeling whole and content. My career drives a creative side of me and my family keep me grounded. They work hand in hand.

As such a busy, hardworking woman, what’s the first thing you like to do when you get up in the mornings?
After cuddles with Violet, Dominic and Misha I jump in an icy cold shower for 3-5 minutes. This wakes my brain and body and starts my day with energy and vitality!

We love your approach to healthy eating, talk us through a day on your plate!
Every day is different based on how I feel or what I’m doing. I love my starting my day with a Bulletproof Coffee then depending on how hungry I am I may have some eggs or I'm loving smoothies at the moment! (The Green Machine from my program is my fave). Lunch is a salad of some kind with pumpkin and chicken. Dinner will often be something slow cooked – especially if I have a busy day. It means I can prep dinner in the morning and by the evening, the family has something nutritious and filling to eat.

With so many different things on your plate, how do you stay motivated?
I think it would be harder to stay motivated if I had less on my plate. I’m constantly setting myself goals and working every day to achieve them and I love seeing those evolve. Staying healthy in my mind and body also keeps my motivation levels up.

What’s one piece of advice you’d love to give your younger self:
Believe in yourself and what you have to say, even if you don’t have the answer for everything. We learn the most about ourselves when we’re in uncomfortable situations so don’t be afraid of them.
